Cosmetics. What to avoid and what to choose? SULPHATES / PARABENS

These days, it's hard to find natural cosmetics that truly nourish skin and hair. Ingredients are full of harmful substances, often hidden behind colorful labels.

Perhaps the most well-known and easily recognizable harmful cosmetic additives are parabens. Ingredients ending in "-paraben" are preservatives that extend the shelf life of cosmetics. Parabens protect the product from various bacteria, fungi, or mold. However, parabens are widely used, so they can accumulate in the body. As pseudoestrogens, parabens can mimic the action of estrogens in the body, which is why they are thought to affect the hormonal system, especially with prolonged use. They can also cause allergies, rashes, and weaken the immune system.

Furthermore, recent studies increasingly confirm the link between parabens and cancer.

Many harmful ingredients in cosmetics have a "hair-restoring effect," making hair silky, but at what cost?

Silicones in hair care products have almost the fastest and most visible effect. Thanks to them, a healthy hair appearance is achieved – hair becomes shinier, easily combed, smooth, and light. Unfortunately, there is also a downside. Some silicones are water-insoluble, so their residues can remain in the hair, thus drying it out and contributing to split ends.

Can cause skin dryness and irritation

Sulfates, such as SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate), can strip the skin's natural oils, leaving the skin dry, irritated, or even itchy, especially if it is sensitive.

Allergies

Some people may be allergic to sulfates, which manifests as redness, rash, and itching. In general, sulfates, especially in high concentrations, can irritate the eyes and sensitive skin areas, so they are often not recommended for young children and people with sensitive skin.
