Bamboo spoon "Chashaku" – for preparing matcha

  • Material: dark bamboo
  • Length: 18 cm
  • Care: Not dishwasher safe.

Dark bamboo spoon (Chashaku)

"Chashaku" is a traditional spoon used to serve matcha tea, an integral part of the Japanese matcha tea ceremony. The curved part of the spoon is used to scoop a small portion of matcha tea and place it into a special bowl ("matchawan"). The mixture is then whisked to a smooth consistency using a bamboo whisk "chasen".

Preparation method for thin tea ("usucha"):

  • Use 1 "chashaku" spoon of matcha powder and about 75-100 ml of hot water.
  • This proportion creates a perfect frothy texture on the surface of the matcha.

Preparation method for thick tea ("koicha"):

  • Use 4-6 "chashaku" spoons of matcha powder with 150 ml of hot water.
  • Thick matcha is much sweeter and harder to whisk, without the usual froth. This preparation method is used only in the Japanese tea ceremony.
  • Material – dark bamboo
