The connection between mind and body: how emotions affect our health

If we understood the impact that emotions have on our health, we would be sad, angry, and anxious much less often. Positive thoughts and good physical condition are inseparable parts of each other. Excellent emotional health is a combination of our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

However, we cannot lie to ourselves: sadness, stress, and anxiety are inevitable on our life journey. Certain events – job loss, children leaving home, the death of loved ones, divorce, illness or injury, financial difficulties – truly bring a multitude of negative emotions into our lives.

Even so-called "good" changes – marriage, the birth of a baby, a promotion – can significantly impact our health.

When feeling sad or anxious, our body tries to help fight off the overwhelming emotions: the heart starts to beat faster, blood pressure rises, and long-term stress can even lead to stomach ulcers!

Poor emotional health weakens our immune system, making us more susceptible to colds and other infections.

Symptoms that negative emotions can trigger:

  • Back pain;
  • Changes in appetite;
  • Chest spikes;
  • Chronic fatigue;
  • Headache;
  • Increased blood pressure;
  • Insomnia;
  • Dizziness;
  • Heart rhythm disorders;
  • Frigidity;
  • Respiratory disorders;
  • Cervical stiffness;
  • Aspen;
  • Weight changes.

How to help yourself?

  1. Try to understand what has disrupted your emotional state. Recognizing the issues that truly concern you will help you tackle them more quickly.
  2. Don't be afraid to express your feelings. Don't hold everything inside – talk to your loved ones and friends. However, don't be discouraged if they don't provide the support you expected; if symptoms persist, consult your family doctor or a psychologist.
  3. Don't live only with thoughts about problems. This way, you just waste energy without gaining anything in return. This doesn't mean you have to pretend that everything is fine, but living solely with negative emotions is also not a solution.
  4. Read inspiring books or magazines, gather knowledge and useful tips. Try to understand what you truly enjoy. And take action.
  5. Embrace change and be flexible. This will help you discover new paths and not miss the opportunities that life offers.
  6. Calm your mind and body. Meditation is a great way to achieve emotional balance. During meditation, remember to breathe deeply. Proper breathing improves emotional well-being, but if you are unsure how to do it correctly, consult your family doctor for relaxing breathing techniques.
  7. Take care of yourself. Try to eat healthily, exercise regularly... and get enough sleep.
  8. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Harmful habits bring not only serious health issues but also create problems for yourself and your loved ones.

Let's be healthy and happy :)
